Hilo!

Bea McDougall is a Vancouver-based author of cozy adventure fantasy, where the magic is grand but the stakes are deeply personal. She writes the kind of stories that feel like a warm blanket with a sword strapped to it; low-stakes, emotionally resonant, and full of characters who are trying their best. Inspired by classics like The Hobbit, The Witcher, and Narnia, Bea crafts immersive worlds where fantasy feels relatable. When she’s not writing, she’s probably overthinking something, drinking tea, playing video games, or watching movies.

My Story

Bea grew up in rural Ontario and started writing...honestly, kind of randomly. Maybe it was the school writing projects, or maybe it was all the fantasy films and video games she devoured as a kid: The NeverEnding Story, Studio Ghibli, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, and dont forget the wild Dungeons & Dragons sessions.

In high school she started to think, “Wait, maybe this stuff is actually kind of good?” That’s when she got deep into world-building and fantasy storytelling. Now, she write stories full of magic, monsters, colourful scenery, and very confused characters who are just trying their best. Because let’s be real, most of us are just figuring things out as we go. Her goal is to make readers feel like they belong in these stories, even if they’ve never picked up a sword in their life.

She's always had a deep love for the world, its people, its cultures, its food (especially the food). That curiosity turned into a dream: to travel as much as she could, not just to see new places, but to meet people, hear their stories, and taste what makes each corner of the world unique. That passion led her to earn a degree in tourism marketing, where she discovered she could use storytelling to help businesses connect with their audience in meaningful, emotional ways. Whether it’s through a fantasy novel or a brand campaign, she believes the heart of any good story is the same: it’s about people, and what makes them feel seen, understood, and inspired.

When she’s not writing, Bea is probably DMing a chaotic D&D campaign, watching monster movies (she loves Godzilla), skydiving (she’s done it three times), or arguing that Reese’s Cups are good, but peanut butter and chocolate together is absolutely not. She lives in Vancouver now, but her imagination still wanders through forests, dungeons, and unlikely friendships formed in taverns.
